I personally would not… I would feel like a hypocrite. These are things that I see as defiling the temple of our bodies… and these things are addictive things that cause unnecessary temptation for some. But that is just me…
What about all the Christians that consume alcohol, beer, cigarettes and buy lottery tickets? Will they be forced to leave the church and told that they are not “real” Christians?
It wasn’t as scriptural as it was a personal morals issue. I mean can a father own a underage prostitute ring? Mind you, Xians see this stuff as on par with such sin(if not less). So its more of how they feel.
You can, but I don’t think I’d want to have to explain to God why I did. I don’t know that it’s the church’s place to tell him to stop (maybe it is for baptists, my church wouldn’t), but I think if he really prayed about it God would help him understand he shouldn’t be selling things that hurt people so.
If he is a licensed minister he should adhere to the dictates of his church. If he is a christian, I would think that he would be constantly un happy selling this stuff.
Since all of those products are legal it becomes a matter that is between the conscience of each individual and God. Many Christians would say that owning such a business was not consistent with being an ambassador of Christ here on earth but that’s a matter of private interpretation and you can’t find a passage in the Bible that says that a Christian cannot own a lawful business that sells products which the Bible does not call sinful. It would be a different story if the Christian was in the pornography business but the Bible doesn’t say that a Christian can’t light up a cigarette while drinking a beer and looking to see if the dollar they spent on a lottery ticket was a winner or not.
i don’t believe the “scriptures” specifically outlaw selling beer, cigarettes or lottery tickets. and i would urge you not to let a book or what a church says control your mind. i’m glad this minister resigned his membership to that dangerous cult.
Rather than quit selling alchohol, beer, cigarettes and lottery tickets he chose to resign from the church? Guess that says what type of a minister he is.
You can apply the spirit of the word to different situations. Everything does not have to be in a a specific Bible verse in order to apply sound principle. Would you be asking this question if he was selling crack?
Hmm… good question. We have to do as God would have us do, not what the world would have us do. This makes sense – a Christian shouldn’t sell alcohol, lottery tickets, beer, and cigarettes in his store. As a Christian, you shouldn’t be a vessel to bring these things to people they sin with.

There is nothing wrong with alcohol, even Jesus drank it.
As for cigarettes and lottery tickets, maybe it is not a good thing, but not enough to make him leave.

I consume all the products listed.
Being an atheist…I’m not surprised that many christians use the same products too.

I don’t think that you can be living for God and supplying these things to people.

Christians can sin all they want, prison has more christians per capita than anywhere else in the world.

I don’t see why not.
Jesus drank and paid taxes and went to parties with prostitutes and sinners.
As long as you aren’t selling to little kids or people you know have problems, why not?
